First night / Morning in Tokyo

Hello everyone!

We have safely arrived in Tokyo, and are sitting in the "lobby" of our hotel watching dozens of well dressed business men scarf down the free breakfast made available by the hotel between 7 and 9am. Being very proud of ourselves for even being up early enough to catch the breakfast considering our 23 hour day yesterday, I figured I would wear the complimentary slippers that I was provided with. People are sniggering at Me. Today we will go to the Vietnamese Embassy to take care of our visas before we head out of Tokyo, and search for the best ramen in our neighborhood of Minato. Love to all, more soon.

  1. Hey, it's Cassandra from the Apple Store.. glad to see you've landed safely in Tokyo! Some recommendations:
    Food:
    - cheap, tasty meals can be had at 7-11 and Lawsons... also, lots of candy.
    - Eat mochi in every variety possible.
    - Tonkatsu is a restaurant chain dedicated to breaded pork cutlets in many varieties.
    - Yoshinoya beef bowls are great.
    - and of course all 5 billion little Ramen shops.

    Places:
    - Temples in Kyoto/Nara, definitely take your time here, lots to see.
    - Kamakura and Yokohama can both be done as day trips from Tokyo. Kamakura's big buddha is pretty cool, and I believe there's a hiking trail nearby.
    - In Tokyo, don't miss Harajuku on Sunday, it's the coolest.. even after living there for a year it's still some great peoplewatching, and right near Meiji Shrine. Speaking of Shrines, Yasukuni Shrine is worth a visit. It's dedicated to all fallen soldiers, and has some eerie memorials and a great museum.
